Overview
The settlement of Rodia, which is just 16 km away from Heraklion, offers an astonishing view to the visitors as it overlooks Heraklion bay. The historic settlement of Rodia probably owes its name to the church of Kera Rodea (Virgin';s Mary Annunciation). It is a very popular village and one of the most beautiful of the Prefecture as it has the most spectacular view overlooking the bay of Ammoudara and the port of Heraklion. It lies at an altitude of 300 m above the sea and is surrounded by verdant hills, olive groves and cultivated gardens. You can visit the ruins of the 15th century mansion of Modinos, a feudal noble, as well as the old church of The Panayia Kera Rodea. The village offers a variety of very good traditional taverns serving Greek and Cretan delicacies.
