Overview
The prefecture of Kozani is predominantly mountain with the exception of the valley of Ptolemaida and Kozani and is run through by the biggest river in W. Macedonia, Aliakmonas. It shares borders to the north with the prefectures of Florina and Pella, to the east with the prefectures of Imathia and Pieria, to the southeast with the prefecture of Larissa, to the south with the prefecture of Grevena and to the west with the prefecture of Kastoria.
Kozani, the most important city of Western Macedonia, is very picturesque retaining the enchanting atmosphere of a bygone age. The area has many surprises to reveal to the archaeology and folklore interested. Kozani can be a perfect base for unique excursions to the surrounding places. You can visit Siatista, with imposing mansions or the archaeological sites at Aeani and Tsotili. The refuge of the Alpine Club of Siatista can be a wonderful ";getaway";.
