Agia Pelagia with its olive groves, wooded hills and beautiful golden beaches is an attractive seaside resort only 20 minutes from Heraklion city.  The crystal clear sea is ideal for swimming, diving and water skiing. Agia Pelagia is built along a wonderful sandy bay where the sea is calm and the water crystal clear even in the windy days. The bay of Agia Pelagia is ideal for combining sea sports with relaxation. Agia Pelagia offers unique high standard hotel facilities as well as many small hotels and pensions.
Its unique location, only 24 km from Heraklion, gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits of a seaside resort and its proximity to the capital of Crete, Heraklion, without being away from the challenge of the capital of the island  and the archaeological places and interesting sights around it.

 Following the path on the left side of the bay you come across many restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars, which overlook the sea.

The sea resort was named after the church of Saint Pelagia, which is only one km west of the bay. Nowadays the little church and some ruins are still visible.

On the northern shore of the bay lies a cave named ";Evresi"; (finding place) where a holy icon of the Saint was discovered. The beautiful little cove of Lygaria and the charming village of Palaikastro with its pebble beach are just a few kilometres away from Agia Pelagia.
